FEDERAL COURT AWARDS TLS A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR JUDGMENT AGAINST MARDIS FINANCIAL SERVICES, INC., CAPITAL PRESERVATION SERVICES, LLC AND J. TODD MARDIS

TLS Management & Marketing Services, LLC, doing business as Tax Law Solutions (“TLS”) would like to take this this opportunity to advise you of a significant final judgment, entered on August 3, 2018 following trial, in favor of TLS and against J. Todd Mardis, Capital Preservation Services, LLC and Mardis Financial Services, LLC (collectively, “Mardis”).  This judgment follows a prior decision of the same Court sanctioning Mardis for misconduct uncovered in the course of the litigation including the destruction of evidence.  A copy of the Court’s Sanction order and Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law are available here and detail the misconduct at issue: [ECF 187 and ECF 225].

PERSONAL INJURY LAWYERS GET TAX BREAK

In James F. Boccardo vs. Commissioner, 56 F.3d 1016 (9th. Cir. 1995) the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals modified well established case law and benefited personal injury lawyers. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals held that all preparation and trial costs paid by the Boccardo personal injury firm, were deductible in the year paid, even through the cases might be settled years down the road. It might not seem like a big change for the public, but there are many ramifications for allowing the deductibility of expenses that might later be repaid. This article will analyze the Boccardo case and its meaning.
